@sibbil Yeah, I got the same result.
@vaidas3 Yeah, I'm starting to think my port is damaged too. I can try connecting my laptop when I go to the library, or at friends house with a wi-fi network. I've read something about a usb ethernet adapter. Are those any good?

Yeah, couldn't remember the actual IP so just mentioned to do 127.0.0.1 so poster knew nothing had changed.

I don't think there is another network available.

Now try one more: do a System Restore to a point in time before you first got the problem.

Go to Control Panel -> All Control Panel Items -> Recovery and select Open System Restore button. Click on an appropriate date/time and click on the Scan for Affected Programs button to see what may need to be reinstalled (hopefully it lists nothing or at least not much).

There was none detected. I used the farthest restore point I had and it was created a couple days before the problem happened.

So you restored and still no good?

The only other thing I can think of right now is running a file I found on this site, posted by chev65, but I'm not sure what it does, and I've never used it, so you would have to use it at your own risk:

Thanks for all your help! I really do appreciate it. I'll give ya a rep for your patience and time. I'm tempted to restore it to factory settings, but my friend told me it wouldn't make a difference. I'll look into that link you posted.

You're very welcome. And good luck! If I can think of anything else I'll post back here.

BTW, I'm unsure why returning to factory wouldn't fix it, unless it really is a hardware problem...

There is another thing that may not allow a restore to work (other than hardware). That would be if something in your router changed. You could check it's config pages to see.

And thanks for that rep, even though we didn't get you anywhere!!

I had sent chev65 a note asking about that file; he wouldn't post it if it wasn't worthwhile, I just don't know all that it does.

Went along with a factory reset. Luckily, I didn't have that many files in my laptop that I wanted to backup. But I still got no connection. So I'm thinking my Ethernet port is damaged.

How do you check the config of the router?
