    Hello Boris.

When planning for a home network, the first bandwidth restriction is from your ISP. How fast is your connection? 3MB/s 6MB/s more? A 10/100 router will max at 100MB/s ten times faster than your Internet speed. A 1000/100/10 router just means you can send data faster between the computers in your home network. Is that important to you? It won't improve your Internet speed until we get fiber optic 1GB/s or better.

For wireless, G would be OK but wireless gets better every day. You may be able to update the "firmware" of a router for a while, but soon you will have to buy a newer one for faster speed and more security. Current G wireless is 54MB/s still faster than your Internet.

In my opinion, it comes down to do you want to spend money now for the newest, or save until a better model is for sale? Something like buying a computer. It may be new today, in 6 months it is old.

    Happy surfing!

    Good post Robert,

Just have to add that in real world use, you get about 70% of the theoretical speeds.

Further more, with 1000mbit, the disk I/O is the limiting factor.
    Theoretically 1000mbit is 125mbyte/sec

I reach about 70mb/sec max, and with small files only 40mb/sec

To benefit from 1000mbit router, all your computers need to have 1000mbit cards.
