It would be very tedious trying to ping facebook on my desktop as it very rarely connects to the wireless. (The property manager still hasn't replied to my pleas about my ethernet port not working).
Anyway, It once took a whole day to try to connect to the internet to get steam running because of my poor adapter.
However, I am here enjoying the freedom of the University internet! Quite ironic to say "freedom" as it's on a proxy. He he.
You might want to check back thru your thread - there are a few posts that you've not replied to or commented on.
The conclusion must be that it can't be fixed? I have followed everyone's suggestion, despite not commenting on them. D:
I think I'd have to clean install windows 7 or something, because we've found the most logical answer, and it didn't seem to work. :/
One more thing - are you using a HOST file?
Facebook gets a lot of its css style sheets from fbcdn.net which your HOST file could be blocking.
The HOST file is ignored while you use a proxy at uni.
A clean install sounds like a plan - let us know how it works after you do that.
I am not sure what a HOST file is, so no? I'm not sure! I googled it, and I don't think I am.
I'll have to find my Windows 7 install cd!
Thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it!
If you have a valid Certificate of Authenticity attached to the laptop, you can download a new W7 DVD with SP1 for free:

That helps so much, thank you! I was unaware you could do this! Next time I am at uni, I'll download it. :) Thank you!
