Internet working, browsing slow thru router, fast thru cable modem I have multiple PCs in a home network connected to the Internet with a cable modem. Service is provided by Shaw. There is a router connected to the modem. The router has a couple PCs and there is a switch with a couple more PCs. Some PCs are Win 7, some Vista. I even tried an old XP machine, but it had the same problem. Everything is wired, no wifi. The network was working very well. All of a sudden the network got so slow that web pages almost never loaded. I get the message “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”. I did not make any changes that I am aware of, but Windows does update itself all the time. If I disconnect all the PCs except my own, the internet is faster so about 60% of the pages load, albeit very slowly. If I connect my PC directly to the modem, it is fast as normal. I concluded I had a router problem, so I bought a new D-Link router, EBR-2310. Checked that I had the latest software and installed it. No change in condition at all. I read several of the threads and tried many of the suggestions, so far all to no avail. I ran Windows Network Diagnostics. It resulted in: Issues found Windows can’t automatically detect this network’s settings The web proxy location didn’t respond in time I checked my LAN settings. Local Area Network (LAN) Settings: “Automatically Detect Settings” is selected “Use a proxy server for your LAN” is not selected (ie is off) Some PCs use McAfee, some Norton, so I don’t think it is the antivirus software. Bonjour is not installed. I use IE, but my kids have tried Chrome and Firefox too. I called my service provider, and they insist everything is fine on their end. So I am very frustrated and out of ideas. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
