First off, am not a networking guy. So, please bear with me if I am skipping information that would be interesting for troubleshooting, because I don't know they would be interesting in the first place.
My situation is this:
1. I have a wireless router.
2. The router has an uSD card slot for plugging in an SD card.
3. The router software is designed to spawn samba server the moment SD card is plugged in.
4. So, effectively, when someone is connected to the router , AND, an SD card is present, they would be able to see the samba share.
5. All is well. If I go to the Windows 7 explorer and hit \\{Netbios name in smb.conf}, the share and it's contents are shown.
6. However, if I open Windows explorer and go to Network, the samba netbios name doesn't get listed immediately.
7. If I do ( force ) a refresh of the Networks window, I see the progress bar animate and after a few seconds the Samba netbios name shows up.
8. I have also seen that, sometimes, even if I don't refresh, the netbios name eventually appears, albeit after a while.
My intention is for it to appear almost instantaneously i.e. as soon as the smbd is kicked off in the router.
Any clues? I have been trying all sorts of options in the smb.conf file, but don't seem to be getting anywhere. I have ethereal etc, so any troubleshooting that you guys can suggest can be done. Just don't know what to start looking at , at this stage.
Thanks in advance.
