Windows 7 x84 cannot receive wireless signal from x64 unless unsecured

Hi i just built a new Windows 7 Machine and i installed x64 bit for the first time and this is my main computer with a WRT54GL Router hooked up and i moved my old machine out to my living room, but when i try to connect to it wirelessley the x86 wont even see my network at all, i have SSID broadcast on, the only way it will see it is if i disable security and WPA2 then it shows up but as soon as i put the security back on it wont connect/see it at all. Can anyone help me i have no idea whats going on, my previous machine i had out in my living room was windows xp and it could connect to my x86 win 7 fine, but now i cannot get it to work, i even bought a new wireless usb adapter to try and it still wont see it unless i unencrypt it.

Thanks.

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

You might try a firmware update on the WRT54GL, I notice lots of problems connecting to those older routers, especially if using a Broadcom interface.

Also make sure the latest drivers are installed from the manufacture of your wireless NIC.

Go with WPA2 security and AES encryption. They tend to work best with Windows 7 drivers.

i Ran the FlushDNS.bat on both computers and it seems to help for maybe 10min i could find the network on my other computer and i entered the password and it worked then it just stopped so im not sure why :/. Im also running DDWRT DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/08/09) mini (SVN revision 12874) on my router

Windows 7 x84 - where can I get one of those?

I haven't had Win7 very long, so this is a huge guess. Does it have anything to do with public / private networks, or the homegroup. you sound more knowledgeable then me - but I'd poke around Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\HomeGroup

Will work for knowledge.

Peace!
