Can't access with RDP when connected to a domain?

New to Windows 7. I'm running 64 bit on my Dell inspiron 530. I need to VPN from home to this machine at work at least weekly. Problem is, it seems to kill the NIC when it goes into sleep mode. I have the NIC settings set to NOT allow the comp to turn off the NIC to save power. But it doesn't make a difference. Any ideas? I've searched the board and can't really find an answer. I'm sure I'm overlooking something simple here. This machine is on my work domain. My home machine that I VPN in from is also on the domain.

Thanks.
