Wi-Fi is working but LAN is not connecting to the internet.

I have two operating systems installed on my Sony Vaio VPCF115FG, Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 8 Consumer Preview.

Wi-Fi is working fine on both, however, LAN connections are only working on Windows 8 but not Windows 7. It reads the LAN connection in Windows 7 but it does not actually connect to the internet. I honestly tried everything, including uninstalling the LAN driver and reinstalling it, no use.

This is an error I received before:



Is there any solution to this without having to reinstall Windows 7?

If you can post a screen shot of your ipconfig/all from the Windows 7 machine I might be able to help. :)

I do not know how to compile them into one screen shot, so I split them into three:

The wireless looks to be working here though there are lots of extra tunnel adaptors there which may cause problems.

It may help if you disable the Bluetooth adaptor and I'd like to see the ipconfig/all with the Eithernet cable connected and the wireless disconnected.

For the extra tunnel adaptors save the file in the link below, unzip and run the file then reboot the machine. This file will automatically uninstall the extra tunnel adaptors.

Try this workaround as your problem may be related to your Windows 7 firewall settings.

Click Start and type cmd in the Search field.

Right-click cmd under Programs and choose Run as Administrator.

Click Yes if prompted.

At the command prompt type ipconfig /all then press Enter.

Note the physical address for the connection (s) that are not working.

Check your firewall settings for these addresses and unblock them.

Thank you, sir. I downloaded the file and ran the 64-bit version and rebooted the computer. Here's a screenshot of ipconfig with only Ethernet connected and Wi-Fi disabled.

By the way, when I ran the "ia64", a message kept popping up and I'd click OK till the process was done. Is that normal? It wasn't an error message as far as I can tell.

Thank you, sir. I do not know how to do that, though. I tried using Windows Firewall with Advanced Settings but I couldn't.

Yes that's normal, the file was just asking for permission to delete the extra tunnel adaptors.

From what I'm seeing here you aren't getting anything from the router's Ethernet port. The extra tunnel adaptors are gone which is good and Bluetooth is disabled.

If you haven't reset the router you should try that first. After that save the file below then unzip and click on it, let it run till your machine reboots. This file will fix any problems with winsock, resets the network stack and flushes the DNS among other things.

Be sure and set the router back up for DHCP and make sure the wireless settings are correct. You should be using WPA2 with AES encryption.

Alright, I'm going to download the file and let it do its thing. By the way, I manually configured the router when I got it (about a couple of months ago) because the Easy Setup CD that came with it did not really work and kept giving me errors. I may have mis-configured a couple of things because I'm not experienced with that; it did, however, eventually work. Here's a screenshot of the DHCP status. And I changed the Wireless Security Settings to WPA2-only with EAS.
