dual boot win 8 and win 7 homegroup issue.

I've got a well established homegroup with several computers on it at home.

I recently fresh installed windows 7 on a laptop after the HDD went dead on me. I set it up to dual boot with windows 8. The windows 8 computer connects to the homegroup I have on the network. The windows 7 computer sees a previous homegroup to which I have no password available. I cant seem to get windows to forget about the other homegroup and get windows 7 to see the homegroup I've been using forever on this same network.

I suggest you remove the idstore.sst file from the following location first:

    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking

It might also help to remove the Windows credentials for the previous Homegroup, you can find the credential manager in the control panel.

    Thank you for the reply.

I actually solved it a different way:

I used my iphone tethering to create a wifi network. I took one of the computers off the main network and then connected the one from the previous network and the new dual boot on the wifi network.

For some reason doing that allowed the dual boot computer to see the homegroup I was looking for and now connecting both to the normal homegroup results in the correct homegroup all around.
