noob @ networking...plz help?

hey everyone,

i been using my router for network sharing but its limited to 100mbit, so i want to take advantage of my giglan's on either setups. i went and bought a cat5e crossover cable today, but i am doing my head in trying to get the setup working.
network & sharing centre shows the internet connection on port 1 (modem router) with home group joined but port 2 (crossover cable) is showing up as unidentified network.

i only want the crossover cable to share the network not the internet, so no ICS. just plain old file transferring is what im after but with gigalan speeds. im running x64 7600 on both pc's, my main rig is in my specs and the other is my spare parts (e8400,xfx 790i ultra ect) that i whacked together as a HTPC.

so is there a way to use ethernet for plain file sharing and not ICS?

thnx in advance to anyone.

p.s. sorry if this has been posted b4 but my bandwidth is over and am down to 7kbps so its very painful loading a single webpage.

1.Correct me if im wrong, You want to make a connection between two computers via the Ethernet Cable and you dont wont internet to be shared ?

2.How many ports do you have in your router ?
3.Are you currently using your Ethernet por to gain internet access at the moment ?
4.Did you correctly connected the wires to the pins.

+ Check by turning your Firewall Off ?

+If you can put a diagram of the setup that you need(use ms paint)

so both motherboards have 2 gigalans each, on each board i want to use 1 Glan port to go to the 4 port modem which is 100Mbit, and the other port to connect either computer using a cat5e 1Gbit crossover cable that i bought from a local I.T. store to actually use 1Gbit file sharing as 100Mbit is extremely slow with large files. here is a scribble.
