Ridiculously slow wifi connection

Hey guys. Upon installing the W7 build 7100 RC (64-bit) I've noticed a gross decrease in wifi speeds and stability. While running XP I averaged at about 10-12mb/s wirelessly which was very stable (1 disconnect every 5-6hours maybe). Now I'm receiving <1mb/s and disconnecting frequently which is a real hassle :/

In reality, even the speed I had on XP was slow considering that my fathers macbook pro reaches speeds of 60-70mb/s wireless from the same place as my stationary stands. I'm well aware of the fact that I have a 54mb/s cap on my network card, but I still think that my network connection should be stronger. Reality aside, I was doing fine with 10-12mb/s despite knowing that somehow I could be getting a faster connection and now it's really unbearable to have <1mb/s.

I've followed tonnes of solution guides on how to set-up wifi on W7 without any success. I've tried countless drivers, let the W7 wizard find appropriate drivers for me, turned on and off Ipv6, changed homegroup settings, messed with the registry and more - Now I don't know what to do next.

One interesting thing (although perhaps trivial?) I noticed while downloading via uTorrent last night was that in the Resource Monitor it said that the network utilization was only at 1% despite me downloading at 100kb/s (which should be more then 10% from uTorrent alone according to the speed test conducting right before). Could this have anything to do with it?

As a final note I'm using a genuine RC client with a genuine key freshly installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are plenty of driver problems with WIFI on Win7 (audio appears to be a common problem, as well) so I would recommend ensuring you have a solid driver installed.

I would also recommend using the 7201 build, it's the last 'real' RC client that was released before RTM was and unless RTM (b7600+) is an option for you, 7201 might be a better solution.

I would love to upgrade to a newer version and had planned on doing so when I finally decided to re-format and install W7 again instead of XP but upon going to Microsoft's site it said that they no longer were releasing downloadable clients. Luckily I still had the 7100 build on a cd.

No it doesn't. Unless you are running Wireless-N, the max speed you can get is 54mb/s with Wireless-G. In either case, it is really hard to say why you are having a slow connection. But try going into Device manager, and to your wireless adapter properties.

Depending on the display of the speed, It could be bytes (uppercase B) or bites (lowercase b). On a 54mb connection this would be about 6MB. However, you will never sustain a connection at 54mb, the max throughput of wireless is a lot lower around 19mb/s even then you won't sustain that.

More data is needed, how are you getting the speed on the connection?

Err, yes it does? >.>" I'm not sure what you mean by Wireless-N, but I'm assuming that means running 802.11n instead of b/g? If so, then yes it's N.

Whats your AV / Firewall Client? I know it's a dumb question, but ESET SSBE blocked my LAN connection completely in Win 7, and Avira really slowed down my connection (by at least 50%) - could it be that simple? I am now using Nod 32 and Comodo Firewall.

None actually :/ I even tried disabling the default firewall without any success.

Tough break mate - I really thought that might help - could be a Win 7 problem I know on Vista until SP2 there were tonnes of wifi issues.

The only other advice I can offer is to try Win 7 RTM. Maybe it may solve the problem.

Haven't tried it with the current installation as it would require me to move my computer ~15meters away into another room. Hence the reason I want to run wirelessly so I can have the computer in the spot I want it to be at x3 I could suppose it'd be rather high though. Last time I ran W7 7100 RC I was getting 80-90mb/s Ethernet and the same crappy wireless speed :/

Do RC keys work for the RTM? Is it available to download legally?
