Desktop computer can't connect to internet but laptop can wirelessly

Hi all, I apologize on making my first post here asking for help but I have nowhere else to to turn so hopefully someone can help me out with this.

In my house I have a wired network as well as a wireless and on the wired network I have my desktop as well as a second (which connects fine to the internet) and all the laptops (and cell phones) have no issues of connecting wirelessly.

Anyways earlier on today my computer was hit with a DNS failure as I was trying to use Google Chrome but then later on (sometime later I wasn't paying much attention), on my network icon in the bottom corner I got a yellow triangle showing it couldnt connect to the internet anymore and that it connected to network 2 while the second desktop that is in the house is connected to network 4.

So thats where I am now, and I dont know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.

No internet checks

Run Ipconfig /All on both the laptop and the desktop. I particular note down the values for the Default Gateway and DNS servers.

The default gateway should be the same as the IP address for your router, the DNS addresses should either point to your router (which will auto pick up your ISP's DNS server addresses) or direct to your ISP's DNS servers.

Here is both the laptop and desktop, perhaps I should point out that they are both Dell products (incase that makes a difference) the desktop is a Vostro 430 and the laptop is an Inspiron. I also tried installing the network drivers that my desktop came with, but that didnt work, and I looked online for the latest ones but it seems that the one on my install cd are the latest ones.

I'm not sure where the extra networks are coming from but have you tried disabling the Bluetooth connection on the desktop in Device Manager? Other than that the ipconfig looks fine.

Windows 7 often gets confused on which connection it should use when there are more than one active adaptors.

It also could be that the network stack is somehow messed up from the DNS failure. If you are still having problems save the file below, unzip and run the file until your machine reboots.

Resetting the router is another option.

That program and removing the bluetooth didnt work. Excuse my noobiness but I got some questions about the router.

1. When you say reset the router do you mean pressing the little red button that says reset? Or do you mean just pulling out the cables in the back waiting a couple seconds and then putting them back in?

2. Pressing the little red button wont erase the wifi networks will it? There are two set up (one for main floor and one for the basement).

Another thing I will add (maybe it means nothing though) is that yesterday my android phone was having issues with syncing with Google and I read somewhere online that if I were to open up port 5228 that it would help with the syncing so I did that but it didnt help and I think I closed it properly but I could of messed it up. That wouldnt cause the issue though would it?

Resetting the router will require that you set up the WIFI network again unless you have a router configuration file saved.

I'm not sure how you have two networks but I'm assuming there is a wireless access point and a router or there are dual routers which often times will cause problems unless the second router is set up correctly, even then dual router set ups can be unreliable depending on many factors. A dedicated access point is the best way to install a secondary wireless access point rather than using dual routers.

If you take a look at the Windows network map from the Network and Sharing center it will show you what the second network is doing.

Most routers have a way to save a configuration file so that you can save all settings so that when a reset is required you can just use the config. file to set the router up again.

From what I'm seeing in the ipconfig/all, the wired connection should be working. I can't say if resetting the router will fix the problem or not but often times that is the only way to fix router problems.

I have no idea about the phone set up.

So I'm wondering if you have a Broadband connection where are you getting the DNS Server address from? Everything should be set on automatic yes?

control panel/internet options/connections/lan settings. Hopefully no proxy server.

Yes that is correct it is automatic and no proxy server.

I noticed that your desktop and laptop are on different subnets. Your laptop is on the 192.168.0.x network, while your desktop is on the 192.168.1.x network. It is not typical for a standard home router to have different subnets for wired and wireless.

You stated that your other wired PC has access and works just fine? please post the ipconfig /all output of that PC as well.
