    wireless

    Aspire 7741Z laptop

Some time ago, my ISP helped me setup my laptop wireless.
However, ( laugh if you want ), I almost always have my laptop plugged in.

    Questions :
    1. I don't like the security code given to me by my ISP. Can I change it without going through them ?

    2. Can I disable wireless until I want to use wireless. Something like toggling between wired and wireless ?

    Thank you.

If you can access the router then you can change the password. You would need to know the default gateway of your router for that. It's usually something like 192.168.01

If you want to go from wireless to wired just plug in the cable and the wireless will work and the wireless will be disabled. You can also disable the wireless adaptor by going into Device Manager then to Network connections.

Mine is a modem from bell.ca
I do know where to enter the security code. I just don't know if the new code will be accepted or will I mess things up.

So, if I plug in the cable via my modem, my wireless is disabled auto ?
How come the Network icon on the system tray is still a wireless icon, and also my laptop's wireless light is still lit ? Is that ok ?

The light may stay on but the wired connection should be working, or I should say that's how it works for me every time I try it. If you really need to disable the wireless then you can go into Device Manager then to Network connections, expand that and you can disable the connection.

I'm not sure what gateway your modem is using.
