ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) service missing - how to install?

    Hello,

As I wanted to enable the ICS on my machine it tells me that I can't and that the service that is being enabled does not exist as an installed service and that is ICS.

I did a lot of digging on the net about it and it's weird, but I can't find anything concrete about this particular problem.
The PC I'm talking about is a work PC with Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

I don't think that someone at my work removed this service (I'm not even sure if you can remove a service) but it is missing from the list and it can't be enabled.. very frustrating.

Is there any way of manually installing it on my windows 7x64?

    Regards,
    M.

Great stuff! Thank you. I now have the ICS in services, but when enabling it I get another error:

Windows could not start the ICS service on Local Computer

Error: 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

Any idea what that could be?

Thanks for this, I did what they said and now I am getting the following:
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start

these are the services that are required for ICS to work:
    Netman
    WinMgmt
    RasMan
    BFE

I checked all of them and their dependencies and all services are running just fine except for BFE. When I try to enable it manually I get Access Denied Error message and the service can't be started.

Any more ideas how to fix this annoying error?

    Regards.

OK I found this and this and I did it with BFE, rebooted the PC and the BFE was running in services so I went and created a new wifi-shared network and the creator came up with this message: Windows could not set up an Internet Connection Sharing. Nothing else.

So what I decided to do was what I did with the permissions to BFE, I applied the same trick to SharedAccess registry key. Rebooted and the ICS creator came up with the same message. However, my phone discovered my wifi network, said it is connected, but the IP is kinda random 169.254.154.180 and gateway 255.255.0.0. Router IP and DNS are blank. Wifi icon on my phone does not show up. Now I'm not sure whether this is my phone, because when I was testing thi wifi dongle on my computer I had the same issue and my friend with the same phone did not. He connected straight away to my network. I don't remember the ip addresses, but i think it was something like 192.168.170.1 ish.

What I'm gonna do now is I'm gonna set the ip address of the wifi adhoc dongle to manual. Should help?
