Fast connection to router but slow download speeds?

Don't understand what's going on here. Connection in Windows is fine, speed wise:



But on Speedtest I'm getting this:



Usually get around 10mbps like the computer next to the router downstairs does. Any ideas? Thanks.

Your signal strength is so low that you should not expect very good network speed from this connection. I'd also say that this connection will not be very stable with only one bar.

That is definitely not a fast connection to the router. How it works is the weaker the signal strength the slower the connection is going to be.

You might want to considering installing a wireless N access point in a location closer to where you need to connect from.

Here is what's possible using the 802.11n Only setting, 5 bar signal strength with WPA2 security and AES encryption, which are both made to work at wireless N speeds.

could be a router problem--when's the last time you power cycled yours?
can you connect 'hard wired' to check your speed?
(UK has bloody slow Satellite/Broadband)

Installing a wireless access point closer to your location would help with the signal strength.

The ratings for that USB adaptor aren't very good but using a different one probably won't help with the one bar signal strength.
