Public Folders Appear Different in the Library

I am really not a fan of this Public folders in order to share files withing my own home network. The old XP method (right click, share file, done!) so so much simpler. Anyway.......

I am running Windows 7. My wife has XP. I want to enable her to see certain folders of mine from her computer and copy files from them. They consist of Pictures, Music and Videos. They all appear different in my Library and I can't understand why.

I have attached 3 screenshots of the Pictures, Music and Videos Libraries.
First is VIdeos. This one is the best. It is the way I wish they all would appear. I have a dog named Cassie and put her videos in a Folder named Cassie Videos and put the file in the Public Videos folder. When I go to my Video Library, I see the folder Cassie Videos listed with all of my other video folders and files and the drop down menu on the left shows the folder in the correct place. I like the fact that the folder appears with the other folders, even the non-public (unshared ones.)

But now look at my Pictures Library. My dogs pictures are in Cassie Pictures, in the Public Pictures folder, but the folder is not listed with my other picture folders, it is listed separately, at the bottom, under Public Pictures (1). The drop down menu says it is in the right place, like my video files, but the Library view does not look the same as the Video Library view. Why is the Cassie Picture folder not listed with my other picture folders, like the Cassie Video folder was listed with the other video folders? And to make it worse, when I am using an application and want to use one of Cassie's pictures in it, when I search for Cassie Pictures in the Pictures library, it doesn't show up, only the non-Public pictures are listed.
And what does the (1) mean next to Public Pictures?

And then finally is my Music Folder. I have my iTunes music library in the Public Videos folder so my wife can copy songs of mine onto her iPod. You see that there are 2 iTunes folders in the library. This is OK. One lof them is the music files and the other is all of the iTunes essentials, like album artwork, and the like. But look at the drop down menu. This looks different. The Public Music folder has a (C next to it. What is that? Why does this look different than the other 2 Public folders?

So to summarize, I would like all of my Libraries to display my public files along with the non-Public files, like my Videos library. Can you guys and gals inform me as to why the 3 Public folders all appear different in my library and how I can get some uniformity for the 3.
Thanks,
Dave
