    No network access

    Hello,

I am trying to set up a network between two computers.

Computer 1 (Debian Linux) does not have a wireless card and is connected through an ethernet cable to a wireless router (Cisco WAP4410N).

Computer 2 (Windows 7) must connect to the network created by the wireless router. I am able to identify the wireless network, but when I try to connect I get a "limited connection" error. When I open the Network and Sharing Center, I can see it listed in my active networks, but it says "No network access". I can't even access the router's configuration manager (through 192.168.1.245 on a web browser).

If instead of connecting the router to Computer 1 I connect it to the internet, then Computer 2 will give me internet access. However, later on I will have to remove these computers from the internet (there is no internet where they will operate). My goal is go to secure-shell (shh) into Computer 1 from Computer 2.

Googling, I found this post, and it turns out that my IPv4 address was on the form of 169.254.x.x. I tried setting the a static IP (192.168.1.10), but that did not solve it.

Problem solved. I had some wrong configurations on the router. In the end, I had to use static IPs all the time, but this is not a problem since these will be the only 2 computers on the network.

To access the configuration manager through the wifi, I had to enable such feature first (required hooking it up again with the cable).
