DHCP Client Service FAILS TO START! (Error 1075)

Hello,

On July 12th 2012, my computer installed updates. After rebooting and waiting for me on the login screen, I gave it a hard shutdown to check on the BIOS settings (for a little side project, in the end I did not save any changes). After booting and logging in again, I find that many services are not running. I ran a very thorough check for malware and viruses (took over 24 hours to complete), and still no solutions. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Driver several times.
I now look in the Event Viewer and find that the DHCP Client service is not running! It is set to automatic start in Services.msc, but when I try to manually start it, it gives me error 1075 (some dependencies do not exist or are marked for deletion). Running ipconfig, I notice that my system is using an APIPA-formatted address (169.254.x.x), indicating that the computer couldn't find a DHCP server.

My Event Viewer is peppered with:

The DHCP Client service depends the following service: Afd. This service might not be installed.

Event 7001, Service Control Manager

The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service depends on the DHCP CLient service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependcy service does not exist or has been marekd for deletion.

And that keeps repeating many times in a minute (about 30-40 cycles of it).

Has anyone experienced this before, and does anyone know how to fix this (and in the end, may this require a reinstall of Windows)?

It sure sounds like your computer is having its share of issues. Did you get the services started that you mentioned in your other thread?

Well, I got some things working by going into msconfig and somehow my boot had been changed to selective boot (?). Not all the services are working yet, i.e. avast, MSE. I think a rootkit was causing some error on attempting to start Windows Firewall and its Base Filtering Engine Service component. After applying the fixes for this, I got Base Filtering Engine Service started, but the actual Windows Firewall service still refuses to start.

sfc /scannow doesn't work on my computer. Does anyone know why (it starts, and around 15 or 16 percent, it says "Windows Resource Protection could not complete the specified request." or something like that. sfc /verifyonly does work though, and results show that there are some file integrity issues.

Yesterday, thanks to a helpful guy at Windows 7 Forums (windows7forums.com), I found that some of the DHCP Client Service's dependency drivers are missing! (I could not find afd.sys, which the DHCP Client Service needs). Since my sfc is not working, are there any other ways to get it working or to get afd.sys (and possibly other files) back?

I have tried the steps given by sheeko1 on that page, it did not work (I got the service running, but it still didn't do its job of resolving DHCP, probably since some components are missing). As for the solution suggested by Halima S., I am disturbed by the results:

I did not find a service named "afd". The fact that the driver is missing further confirms this issue.
I did not find a service named "NetBIOS over TCP/IP". Dunno what the driver name for that is though, so I'm not sure about that.

[UPDATE] Apparently after some searching around, the most prominent solution for the sfc issue is to do a "repair" installation of Windows. I would do that, but I don't have any more activation keys...

When you did sheeko1's solution you need to restart the computer before the changes will take effect.

The Ancillary Function Driver is the AFD.

NETBT is the netbios over TCPIP.

Hope that clears that up.

Thanks, and I did reboot. While the actual DHCP service did start, its functionality was still missing.

Solution summary (for Windows 7-based Operating systems):
1. Check that services.msc that DHCP is properly running (Windows+R opens "Run", then type services.msc)
2. If not running, go to Regedit (Windows+R) and modify corresponding HEX files.
This involves deleting an unnecessary Hexfile (from a previously installed program) which "obstructs" the above services from running properly
