Dell laptop Windows 7 wifi wont connect

Hello, i know a lot about the dell xps m1330, especially when it runs xp.
However i dont know much about windows 7.
I know the wifi in the laptop works, i know the laptop has no issues.
I know this because i switched my hard drive from my 1330 to this laptop which is also a 1330...connects and works fine.
    Wifi IS turned on
In device manager the driver is ok no exclamation marks anywhere

When i try and connect with the ethernet i get identifying no network access, then it says currently connected to unidentified network, no network access! You cannot browse.

So that being said it must be in the setting with windows 7.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the wifi driver it did not make any difference.
I also tried using a ethernet connection and it would not connect either.
When i use the win 7 trubleshooter it states a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken.

Remeber this laptop functions fine with my hard drive in it with windows xp.

    Thanks if you can help

    Hi Kentuckynet,

My name is Mohammed from DELL social media outreach team

In response to your recent query I would suggest you to go the DELL website update the chipset drivers and wireless drivers .You can do it by clicking on the link given below

    http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19

Once it’s done click on start->Run-> type CMD type the command ipconfig then press enter and check whether you see any numbers in default gateway if you can see that then type the following command ping then the numbers. If you are not able to get reply after you ping might have issues with windows 7 .Please reply back with the findings.

    Thanks & regards

Before you installed Windows 7 you might have tried going to the Dell site and download the required drivers for Windows 7 for your Dell XPS m1330 before you uninstalled XP.

You would need to use a DVD or USB flash drive to store the Windows 7 drivers before making the transition to Windows 7, this way you would have all the required drivers on hand as soon as Windows 7 was installed.

Youre correct but i think windows 7 had most of them built in since dell doesnt have any drivers for windows 7 for this laptop...why would they have quit working?
I have never once had to do this with windows XP or any other operating systems.

    Just curious?

Can i use the original repair disc and repair...dont really think going to get the same drivers will help any...and like i said if memory serves me it had most all of them built into win7

    thanks

Yes Windows 7 does have many drivers built into the Op system which is really helpful but sometimes you need to go to the manufacture's web site or just look around on the internet to find them. Windows update often times has updated drivers for which ever system it's installed on. In general, after installing Windows 7 you will want to go to Windows update and get everything pertaining to your system.

If this Windows 7 installation was already up and running at one point and just stopped working then it could be a completely different problem other than just drivers.

Have you tried going into Device Manger and reinstall the network drivers from there?

    Hi Kentuckynet,

My name is Mohammed from DELL social media outreach team again

I would suggest you to check whether you are able to ping the default gateway as per the step given in my first reply ping will reply back by mentioning how many reply it got and how many failed Cause ping command is not depended on operating system or internet connection status .As far the drivers are concerned you can download the following drivers by going to the website by clicking below.Download in the following order
    1, chipset drivers
2 ,notebook system software (under utilities)
    3,Broadcom drivers (under network)

The issue is more than likely due to what I bolded on your post.

Try this: move your mouse to the taskbar over the network connection and single-click it. From the popup, click 'Open Network and Sharing Center'. There is a section called 'View your active networks'. Double-click the 'Unidentified Network' and select from the options given whether it's a Private Network(if you're not at home) or Home Network or Work, then click 'OK' and see if you're able to connect to the internet now.

Have you not got access to a computer/laptop that has a internet connection such as a family/friends?

If they don't mind burn the drivers to the USB?
