Acer Aspire One Netbook will not hookup to wireless or wired internet?

First post here. I hope this is the correct place to put this post, if not please move.

I just bought a used Acer Aspire One 10.1 netbook and I am having some issues. When I got it the pc needed 17 windows updates done. So I did that but I am not sure all the updates worked properly as the machine shut down but never rebooted after finishing updates. After I turned it back on I tried to connect to the internet through my wireless router (which is working fine for other devices), nothing. So I tried a wired connection, nothing again. The wireless is finding my router it is just not hooking up to the internet. I tried ipconfig/all in the cmd prompt and all it shows is that the media is disconnected??? Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on? The compute seems to be functioning fine except for the internet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks All!

Im running Window 7 (I think starter edition).

Have you checked Device Manager to see if there are any devices listed (especially any network devices) to see if they have a yellow ! next to them to indicate they have a problem? Windows update may have installed a driver that broke things. You could try a system restore to a date prior to the updates.

If that gets you going then you could try reinstalling the updates making sure that you don't allow Windows Update to install updated drivers for your hardware. Driver updates should come from the mfr of the hardware, not MS.

Do a System Restore to before the windows updates. All fine then? If so ... install the updates in batches of 3 at a time. Reboot and check network. Then you know the batch of 3 causing the error. Do a System restore again and install the 3 patches one by one. Now you know the sick patch

There are no yellow ! by the devices. Also the only restore date I am being given is the same day I did the updates, nothing prior? Its very frustrating..

Try that restore then. It's probably a restore point that was done by Windows Update prior to installing the updates.

I have not put anything on the machine yet so would it be crazy to do a system recovery? I will have no files to lose...

First try wired. What is your IP-address then?
    IPCONFIG tells you
