Have you checked Device Manager to see if there are any devices listed (especially any network devices) to see if they have a yellow ! next to them to indicate they have a problem? Windows update may have installed a
driver that broke things. You could try a system restore to a date prior to the updates.
If that gets you going then you could try reinstalling the updates making sure that you don't allow Windows Update to install updated
drivers for your hardware. Driver updates should come from the mfr of the hardware, not MS.
