Transferring Data from one Computer to Another

So pretty much, this is what I wanna do.
My friend has a really old laptop (HP Compaq nX8220) with her info on it. She recently purchased a new Dell Laptop and now she wants to find a way to put all the old data from her old computer to the new one.

Any suggestions? Ethernet Cable? Using a USB and loading the information in bit by bit ?

Nevermind, turns out you can't share data between XP and Windows 7.

You can still copy pics, documents, media, or program installation to a USB thumb drive or burn to a CD/DVD and transfer to new computer.
