Is the XP machine a 32 bit system?

Have in you located or installed any compatible printer drivers for your 64 Windows 7 system?

download and install the printer software on the windows 7 machine.
Most modern printer installers will handle the networking details for you, just ensure the printer is set to shared on the xp machine.
As noted above the problem is likely one of drivers.
