Sounds like your new router could be using a channel that's being heavily used already in your area. Connect to it via wire, log in to the administrative interface, and try changing the channel setting. This may require a bit of trial and error as wifi channel bands overlap each other and can interfere with each other. You can also try turning up the transmit power on the wireless radio, use WPA or WPA2 instead of WEP (if it is using WEP right now), turning off 802.11b support, and make sure (though this is unlikely) that it's operating strictly in 20MHz mode, not mixed or 40MHz mode.
