Desktop connects to wireless network, but not to Internet

I have a Dell XPS 8300 (running Windows 7 Home Premium) that has lost Internet access. It was fine until yesterday. It shows that it's connected to my home wireless network, but cannot acces the Internet. All our other computers (desktops, laptops & iPad - all running different OS) are able to connect.

I checked the network card, using the Windows Device Manager, and it shows that it is "working properly" and that there are no conflicting devices. What should I do next?

Open network and sharing center>manage wireless networks. Then right click your network and press "remove network" This will not affect your network in any way, it's just deleting the saved info on your computer about your network. Then try reconnecting to the wireless network, and when asked between home, public, or business make sure to select "home". Please reply, on how that goes.

I hoped online to troubleshoot the EXACT same issue i recently encountered. It started Sunday morning for me. The night before my system had updated and I believe a Mcafee update was included.

Either way, after seeing Mrhiab reply regarding Mcafee, i did a system restore after trouble shooting everything else.

After doing a system restore my internet works perfect again.

I would definitely do a system restore to the last date before any type of software updates were done.

I registered for this site simply to reply to this post. Hope it was worth it!

Besides the McAfee problem which I call sabotage.
McAfee - Resolving the recent update issues with McAfee Consumer Products

Usually just resetting winsock will fix this problem. At an elevated command prompt use the following commands one at a time, hit enter after each one.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

First - thanks for all of your replies.
Skylais: I tried disconnecting and re-connecting, but that had no effect.
    Mrhaib: I do have McAfee.
1timeposter: Iwill consider the fix you suggest. I signed up due to this problem too.
chev65: I'm not too confident entering commands, but I'll keep your advice in mind.

    Thanks, everyone.

An update on this problem: The system reset did not work. I'm reluctant to try the winsock route until I find out more. I've read about the issues with McAfee, but I don't know for sure if or how I've been affected by it. If anyone has learned anything more definitive about this - beyond what's been in the tech press - I'd be anxious to know. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to pick the brains of some of our IT professionals at work.

    Cheers,

Those are about the most basic commands you can possibly run, standard procedure and they won't hurt a thing.

In fact the winsock reset has fixed the exact problem on many occasion. :)
