given the average range of bluetooth, and that it's weird, I think your'e far better off with a ethernet cable. Much easier to do it. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number custom built OS Win 7 Pro 64-bit 7601 CPU AMD Phenom 9650 QuadCore, revision DR-B3 Motherboard ASUS M4A78 Memory 4,00 GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Fujitsu Siemens P19-3P Screen Resolution 1280 x 1024 x 32 bits @ 60 Hz Oh yeah, 4:3 rocks! You don't need a router to play "lan games" (peer to peer) A switch will work fine. In other words 1 PC would act as the host and the other pc/pc's would connect to you locally over the internal network. But you would have to connect all the pc's via an Ethernet cable for this to work via the switch.
You would only need a router if both computers wanted to play against each other online via the internet or if you wanted the laptop to connect wirelessly to the internal network | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self Built OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (Build 7600) CPU AMD Phenom Quad core 9950 black edition Motherboard Gigabyte Memory 8Gb Graphics Card 2x XFX Radeon 5850 Sound Card PCI Express X-Fi Titanium / Logitech G35 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP 2410i Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU Jean Tech Storm 700W Case Cooler Master COSMOS S Cooling Akasa Evo Blue Pro Hard Drives 1x 500Gb Seagate

Gigabit nics have auto-mdx, and maybe newer 10/100 nics may have it as well. This allows you to hook up 2 computers with a straight Ethernet cable and not require a crossover cable.
Just plug in the cable between the computers and you are networked. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HAL-9000 OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit CPU Intel i7 3770K Motherboard Asus Sabertooth Z77 Memory 16GB DDR3 1333 Corsair XMS3 Graphics Card XFX HD6950 2GB EyeFinity Sound Card Logitech G35 & Sennheiser PC135 & VIA HD Monitor(s) Displays 23" HP 2310e, 23" Samsung B2230, 21.5" Viewsonic Screen Resolution 5760x1080 Keyboard Logitech G15 and G13 Mouse Logitech G700 Gaming Mouse PSU Antec True Power New 650watt Case Cooler Master HAF-932 Cooling Corsair H60 Hydro Cooler, 3x 230mm Fans, 2x120mm Fan Hard Drives 16TB of Storage

if the cable is crossover it will have one end of one color and one end of another colour (mine are gray on one end and blue. Also, you have to connect both computers to the switch, and doing so with a single cable is a bit... impossible. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number custom built OS Win 7 Pro 64-bit 7601 CPU AMD Phenom 9650 QuadCore, revision DR-B3 Motherboard ASUS M4A78 Memory 4,00 GB Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Fujitsu Siemens P19-3P Screen Resolution 1280 x 1024 x 32 bits @ 60 Hz Oh yeah, 4:3 rocks!
