Network Seems Slow.

Hello, I have a Windows XP box that I just made that houses a bunch of harddrives used for a media/file server.

I'm not sure of the write speeds before, but it seems really slow now... The motherboard (Asus P5K) has a Gigabit network card inside so I expected to be around 70-80MB/s at the very least...
When I transfer a file from the box to any of my other computers/laptops the speed is always 80+MB/s.

Problem is when I'm writing to the box.. I get maximum 20-30MB/s... sometimes even going down to 10MB/s.

I've tried a whole bunch of things so I'm hoping you guys can help!

The harddrives inside are 5400RPM WD Green drives. While they're not the fastest drives, I'm pretty sure their write speeds are not 20MB/s.

Well the NIC has nothing to do with how fast you write to your drives.
Your using a SATA II board on Green 5400 rpm drives. The max write speed on a green W/D is around 30MB/s, I believe, don't quote me on that...
Have you considered setting up a raid array? Your board will support Raid 0,1
Here's a couple links to look at Raid Questions and Answers

But I think for the performance your looking for your going to have to get out your wallet

I have a separate box for backup that already has a Raid5 array, but that's besides the point. The motherboard doesn't even support Raid anyways. According to these benchmarks :
Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB Hard Drive Review - Page 7

The drive should be getting an average of 50MB/s. My laptop has an SSD in there so reading/writing off it isn't the problem and my main rig has two WD 640 Black drives in Raid0 so that can't be the problem either.

Furthermore, after some testing internally, when I copy a file within the box I'm getting 40-50MB/s writing speeds, but it's only over the network that I'm getting low speeds.
