Don't see my old pc with xp using my pc with windows 7

I have an old pc with xp that's wired to a router. My laptop is wireless and has windows 7. I see both of these online in the router -the ip addresses. I've enabled sharing on the old pc. I don't want anything shared on my laptop. both have the same workgroup. I can ping the old pc. I haven't enabled sharing on my laptop. what am i missing?

You need to enable sharing on the XP machine then run the network wizard.

If you don't want the share the files on the XP machine use the permission settings to deny access on the C: drive properties.
