Ping Spikes in a regular pattern, for over a month now.
Okay this problem has driven me mad and I'm hopeless. I play this game and that is when I notice them the most, but I'm sure they also occur when browsing. For about a month now I've been dealing with these annoying lag spikes that happen 2-3 times every match for a long time(usually last for 2-4 minutes). They are usually in a similar pattern, it'll spike to around 500+ then on to 800, 900, 1200 and numbers around there. After that it'll drop closer to the 300s and near 180 then down to my normal ping of 68. The numbers are usually always similar or the same!
Now here's where it gets weird. I called my ISP (Shaw) several times and they checked everything, or as they say so. They installed a new outlet, ran many speed tests and the results are always good. Im now asking them to change my modem and they say that itll cost me since they see no problem. I want this to be my last resort if I cannot be helped here.
Since my ISP couldn't figure it out, I though it'd be my laptop, which is Windows 7 64bit. I tried several online fixes such as disabling network throttling, changing my audio drivers, etc. However, now I'm almost convinced it cannot be my laptop because I went on a roadtrip to Calgary and I was on my relative's wireless, AND THERE WERE NO PING SPIKES!
I come home today, and the ping spikes have returned. I am connected straight to the modem and the ping spikes are still there. I also connect via wire to a router and then the modem, and there are still ping spikes there also. I connect to my home's wireless and there are still ping spikes there.
This is a large problem because I am a competitive gamer, and now I am clueless. Is there anything I should try that may help me?
*Also, on a side note, I noticed every time i tried an online fix, the ping spikes would lessen and then come back exactly the same after a while. Maybe its just me, but I thought it may be helpful to let you know.
Thanks in advance!
