Wireless not working after upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi,

I have a new laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I installed Ultimate and now there is no way to make an Internet connection. The button that had the symbol where you click and connect to a network with Wi-Fi has disappeared. I tried turning the router on and off as well as plugging the laptop into the router with a cable but neither have worked.

So I decide I should either reinstall Home Premium. I put in the CDs that had the drivers, but when I tried to reinstall I got the message "Fail to format disk 0 partition 3" .

Also I was wondering if I should try to install Windows 7 Ultimate again. My main purpose was to run Virtual PC for Windows XP so I could run 16-bit programs, but I would also like to know if I can simply install XP on a computer running Window 7.

When you upgraded to Ultimate, did you reinstall all your drivers?

No I didn't, all I did was backup my files but I don't think it told me anything about drivers.

The easiest way to upgrade to Ultimate is to insert the Product Key into Anytime Upgrade to unlock the few extra (expensive) features in 10 minutes or less. Windows Anytime Upgrade - How to - Windows 7 Forums

If you are stuck now and need to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 then follow the steps in the blue link to get a perfect reinstall which will be a much better install than the factory pre-install anyway. Follow the steps re: drivers closely as they are handled differently in Windows 7 than XP.

Thanks for the help. I haven't figured out the clean reinstall yet, so I reinstalled Windows 7 Ultimate again. It still doesn't work though. If I do that reinstall, should my wireless come back? I just want to find a way to undo the upgrade I made. By the way I haven't seen a wireless switch on my laptop.

It would help if you mention the laptop make and model. We would have already provided the driver.

If a driver is not in the installer then find it on the Support Downloads webpage for your model. Go there now to download and install the Wireless driver, then go online to get all of your Important and Optional Windows Updates which will also provide drivers.

Then if any drivers are missing import them from the model's webpage.

All the steps are in the reinstall tutorial. You would think you'd at least know the basics before trying to reinstall...again.
