Windows 7: Another internet download speed problem

I have a 13mb download speed on my hardwired desktop pc. My lappy used to get nearly the same download speed all the time. My wife's work lappy used to get the same download speeds, as did my (shock horror for a Windows 7 forum) Ipad.



Desktop connection still at 13mb, but wifi devices now at 0.5 mb.

Nothing has changed as far as I know , any suggestions?

Rebooted router, but no improvement.

Could you post the model of your router please? It will most likely be on the back/underside of the machine. Alternatively let us know which internet service provider you are with.

And a cautionary note: I have only intermediate experience with networks, born mostly from problems I have had in the past and managed to solve with the help of this site and the internet at large. I'll do my best to help you with yours, but don't expect miracles!

I think I may have fixed the problem,

I am using a BT home hub3.

I went into the advanced settings on the hub (or router) and changed channels from 6 to 7.

Now getting 13mb on all devices.


No idea why that has worked, but it has.

Well its nearly solved...

I keep getting intermittent lapses back to down 1/2 mb then an hour later its back up to 13mb.
