Sharing internet via USB->Ethernet adapter
Ok, so I am a student at the Univ. of Pittsburgh and attempting to connect my 360 to the network to play online/stream NetFlix. The Univ. posted this PDF detailing how to connect a console to the network. I picked up a Belkin USB->Ethernet adapter from campus IT the other day and began to follow the guide... (The network is funky, you can't directly connect a router/console via ethernet. It must first be run through a computer to have the proper credentials, then be shared from there.)
[Tangent] While enabling Internet Connection Sharing from my local connection, it kept getting an error stating "An error occurred while Internet Connection Sharing was being enabled. The dependency service or group failed to start. I checked it's dependencies, Remote Access Auto Connection Manager and Remote Access Connection Manager were set to "Automatic" but both bounced back with "Windows could not start the RA(A)CM service on Local Computer. Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start."
From here, I checked each of their dependencies, RAACM relies on RACM, which relies on SSTP Service, which wouldn't start, causing the whole tree to not start. I kept working down the ladder from here, except that SSTP has NO dependencies, yet it won't start.
With some Google'ing, I found that it may not be starting because of Windows Event Log was not running. Lo and behold, W.E.L. was set to "Automatic" but when I tried to start it, I got "Windows could not start the W.E.L. service on Local Computer. Error 4201: The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider."
Back to good 'ol Google. This recommended removing the RtBackup folder found at C:\Windows\System32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup. I removed this after making a backup, but to no avail. Now, I also found that booting into safe mode via msconfig and then renaming this folder to RtBackup2 via command line as admin could fix it. I got denied permission as the administrative (and only) account on this computer... So I navigated there and manually changed it. Changed the boot mode back, now the folder had re-created and repopulated itself, but I was finally able to get ICS to stick upon closing the Local Area Connection window.[/Tangent]
I have USB->Ethernet adapter plugged in and a new cable running to my console, but in the Network Connections window, Local Area Connection 3 (ASIX AX88772 USB2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter) has "No Network Access" listed under Connectivity. I'm finally tired of bashing my head off this concrete wall next to my desk
and decided to ask for help. I feel that community members will far surpass the capabilities of some shmuck they'd send out to help me, so I figured I'd try asking here first.
