Connect laptop to desktop when working from home

Brand new to this group - trying to find out if I can connect my laptop to my desktop to make it easier when I'm working from home. I'd rather use my desktop monitor and keyboard but need to access the files/applications from my laptop. I don't want to have to unplug the monitor/keyboard each time I'm home to work. Make sense? Is there some way to do this?

Welcome to the windows 7 forum.

One suggestion is that you use the free logmein remote control program, If I understand you correctly.

http://logmein.com is a free for personal use remote program. There are some others but I believe that logmein is the most popular.

Use Remote Desktop to put the Notebook screen, Programs and files on the desktop screen.

Do a Google search for Windows Remote Desktop and you will get all kinds of info on how to use it. But you need Win XP/Vista/7 Pro on the notebook to connect to it with RDC

I have a docking station for my laptop and use a KVM switch to be able to share my monitor, keyboard, mouse and speakers between my laptop and 2 different desktops. When I'm at the office, I put the laptop into the docking station and switch the KVM over to the laptop and have all my peripherals ready and usable.

I have a second similar setup at my home which makes it easy for me to take my laptop to and from the office as needed.

The docking station isn't absolutely needed but it's what makes it so I don't have to plug/unplug a bunch of cables when taking/returning my laptop.

What brand/model laptop do you have?
