    swapping between ethernet/wifi "Unidentified Network"

Good afternoon I'm hoping that someone may be able to help me with an unusual issue I am experiencing.

We have a number of different laptops running Windows 7 and all have the same issue.

The very first time a laptop is connected to the company network via Ethernet or WiFi (lets assume we have connected by WiFi) you receive the prompt to choose a network location. After selecting "work" the laptop can connect to the domain and everything works as expected.

Now if the WiFi on the laptop is switched off and the user try's to use the Ethernet connection the Ethernet adapter reports a "Unidentified Network". The only way to get the Ethernet adapter to discover the domain is to disable the WiFi adapter completely which our users cannot do as they do not have Admin permissions on our systems.

Anyone had and similar issues or heard of anything like this? Any help would be gratefully received.

I suspect but this may be dependent on the hardware/firmware in the laptops that they are only able to use a single adaptor, in other words they don't have dual port capabilities, sometimes if they have a power save active it will only allow 1 port, you really need to check the laptop model specs.
Have you tried to plug in and connect with a Ethernet and once you have established a connection try the wifi link,
As for not having permission can your IT not allow that specific permission.
