Internet connection dropping since I upgraded to Windows 7 Computer

I bought a Netgear wireless router and usb adapter 2 years ago and have not had any problems connecting to the internet until I bought a new computer this week. The only thing I can figure is it has something to do with Windows 7 (my old computer ran Windows XP).

    Here is what happens.
    1. I plug in the adapter.
    2. I connect to the internet
    3. After about 30 seconds my connection drops.

Here is what I have done to-date (with no success):
    1. Turned off Windows Firewall
    2. When in to device properties and turned off option for Windows to turn off device for power savings mode
    3. Downloaded and installed most recent driver for device.

What is so puzzling to me is that I can actually connect to the internet for a short period of time. That makes me think the router is alright. Is there something in Windows that would break the connection?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Please let me know what adapter you are using.

Try using an older version of the driver to see if it fixes the problem

Make sure windows is completely updated

Repair system files: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Does this happen with a wired connection?
