Client cannot ping router through host (ICS) - No other problems...

    Hi,

This one is really baffling me now...

I have windows 7 ultimate x64 on host and client for ICS.

Host is a laptop with a WIFI card and an Ethernet Card. (Sharing its WIFI through the ethernet card to the PC)

Client is a PC with only a Ethernet Card.

    -------------------

Everything is working fine (I have internet from both - can ping each other etc)

But i cannot ping the actual router from the client (PC) - I can ping it fine from the laptop.

Says: Reply from 192.168.1.20: Destination Host Unreachable. (then repeats)

    -------------------

Am i missing something? or is it supposed to work like this?

Any help would be majorlly appreachated - as i cannot get to the router login page from any computer other than the laptop which is connected to it wirelessly.

    Thank you in advance?

I'm not 100% sure how ics works but my assumption would be that it acts as a router and as such is a layer 3 boundry device. What I would try doing is using a different subnet for the link from the pc to the laptop something like 192.168.2.0/24 as what I think is happening here is from the desktop when you try to access the router it is switching rather than routing and an ics box won't forward on layer 2 packets. I could be off the mark but try a different range on that link

    omg - it worked!

changed the laptop ethernet card ip to - 192.168.0.25 (was 192.168.1.25)

    ---

then changed the pc ip to - 192.168.0.20 (was 192.168.1.20)

and pc gateway to - 192.168.0.25 (was 192.168.1.25)

    ----

I can now ping and login from the other computer!

(it cant stay like this because of my domain network - but i can easy temporally switch it now if i need to use the router from other computers)

Thank you SO SO much !!!
