Not much unfortunately - can you set up the network again, get the error then run that code - the file will update hopefully with accurate information. Failing this, we may need a list of very step you made so we can recreate the setup you performed in attempt to discover the issue.
alas there is no error code ... simple the statement "Windows could not set up [networkname]
Method:
-Control Panel/ Network& Sharing Ctnre/Set up a new connection
-Set up a wireless ad hoc
Window asks for Network name
Security type: WPA-2 Personal
Security key
Tick box (save this network) Next
than the 'could not set up' msg appears.
Okay, can you check that the wireless switch is set to the on position (I'm sure you've checked this already)
Can I clarify that you're wanting to share a wired connection to your friend?
Do you have any outstanding Windows Updates/Service Packs?
(My replies will be quite slower after this point so hopefully someone else can chime in or later on I'll respond)
ok ... looked for wireless switch the other day ...can't rememer where I found it (and of course
it doesn't show in search! - thanks MS) ..can you tell me where it is?
updates are all current
what I want to do is learn how to use the laptop as a hotspot so when I get my iPhone (it's in the post) I can
access the i'net via the hotspot and not run up a huge bill with data on the phone.
thx for hanging in ... I also need to be elsewhere shortly so after you tell me where to find that switch we can leave it there for now ... cheers
oh btw ..checked and I am registered as the Administrator
You do realize that you have to use a Windows 7 certified driver for this. Otherwise you won't get the Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport installed which is required in order to set up the hosted wireless network.
You need to see the Microsoft Virtual WiFi miniport adaptor in Device Manager or the hosted wireless network won't work.
Other than that you should have no problems setting this up. :)
thx ColinJK ... it's easy when you now how isn't it. ... and that F8 was sitting there all the time with the wireless icon!
thx also chev65 (wow is that the car you drive?) ...yes the MS Virtual WiFi miniport adapter is there
