After months of smooth sharing "Your folder can't be shared."

I used to share folders without problems on this W7SP1Ult64 with an XP32Pro machine.
    Not anymore.
I can't imagine why. All I did recently was swapping a slowly failing (not system) 1TB HDD for a 2TB HDD. Then I played around with partition letters.
Now no matter what I do, no matter where: Your folder can't be shared.

I tried everything shown in: Your Folder Can't Be Shared Error Message in Windows 7 - YouTube
Actually, I didn't have to do anything except for: I believe DHCP Client (maybe one of the others listed) was on manual, so I switched it to automatic.
    Your folder can't be shared.
I did not install a virtual machine nor am I aware of doing so in the past.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

I have the opposite problem and do not want to share but am unable to turn that off even with admin rights.

I am thinking of disabling the homegroup.

If you did not make any changes to your setup, who or what did?

Maybe a program that was recently installed made changes.
