Is it possible to share folders/files over the internet?

I was wondering if it's possible to share files and/or folders over the internet with your friend? By sharing I mean both people accessing the same folders and when someone edits something, the same thing happens on the other side. I know this is possible over the same LAN network, but what I want to know if this is possible if you aren't in the same network.

    I use 2
    Dropbox - https://www.dropbox.com/
    Skydrive - https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...n-US&cbcxt=sky

Here is a little guide to get started with dropbox - http://www.guidingtech.com/3656/drop...e-backup-sync/

    Another option is Google Drive.

Google Drive - Add to "Send To" Context Menu

I've never looked at these apps before and have to admit they are pretty cool. I think I will give DropBox a try (the free one) just to see how well it works.

I don't think this is what Nareto was talking about but it may do the trick anyway.

Dropbox should do the trick, if you share a folder to someone and you make a change, that change is applied to the other people it is shared with... the same goes if they were to make a change.

Only issue i have with drop box is i don't believe it is possible to set permissions on the folder (such as saying i can read/write but others can only read... everyone it is shared with gets read/write access but you can create multiple folders and share different folders with different people though).

There is a nice option on there called Events, you can see what everyone has done and it allows you to recover a file if someone deleted it.

You will run into problems if multiple people are modifying the file at the same time though.

Very true, I personally only use it to easily share pictures of my kids with the family so don't have that issue.
