New Windows 7 Ultimate install, no internet connection

    Hi folks,

I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on a friend's laptop. I can connect to a local unsecure network and I've updated drivers etc. Yet when I try to connect to my secure network I get the "unidentified network" message. She also gets it on her network. It's an Acer Aspire 5720 and the wireless card is an Atheros AR5007EG. I've also tried connecting via ethernet but still no connection.

It's a problem with the AR5000 series WiFi cards. For some odd reason they don't support WPA2 security.

    Look at this Google search.

Have you installed the chipset driver...sometimes the chipset driver has the LAN driver in with it.

Well after looking at Acer's website...there seems to be no support for windows 7. It's all for vista...that might be a big problem....

I formatted and installed Vista and I'm still having the same problem. I installed the latest drivers (by connecting to an open network) but when I try to connect to my home network I get Unidentified Network local access only. This is via wifi and ethernet.

I should also add my ISP is BT Infinity with the Homehub 2 and my friends is Sky Broadband. It can connect to a neighbour's open BT network but that's it.

The drivers in the link below are for Windows 7, follow the instructions for using WinRAR to extract them.

The file has been removed. I'm pretty sure it's the same driver I tried before I reverted back to Windows Vista.

    Hi Paul,

    Try Atheros & Zidas drivers

Scroll down the page until the last but one section (the one above the section headed Zidas). The driver you require is 10.0.0.75 WHQL

Link about this problem with the Atheros 5007eg, yes it's a driver problem so the latest one should help, any driver with WHQL rating will work with WPA2.
