Sharing Issues - WMP12 and PS3 Ok.
So it has been an extraordinarily rocky road to get sharing up and running with my PS3 since I moved to Windows 7 / WMP12. Heres a brief synopsis:
Couldn't share at all. Went in, set media streaming to allow to all devices. Some files showed up on PS3, counted partial success.
Removed all folders from WMP12 Libraries and rebuilt libraries with folders I wanted to show up. Also went in and had shared the folders to all users on the network with read permission, made sure that the WMPservice had read permission in security on those folders too. At this point, all my videos showed up exactly as i expected them to. I could browse by playlists, folders, or the various catergories. Music refuses to show up, all the playlists show up, but not the music itself. Can still play music by creating playlists on the pc then running them from the PS3.
Went in, created music playlist for 3 folders, plays fine. Hour later, came back, created another playlist, this playlist does not show up at all on the PS3, even if i navigate to the folder that the playlist is in. Every other playlist shows up, just not this most recent one. Clear all libraries, rebuild, wait 2 hours, playlist suddenly shows up.
Check every Windows Firewall setting for UPNP streaming, and everything is allowed. Removed myself from the homegroup, in case that was stopping things, made sure everything was still shared. Still no dice. Playlists, but no folder, album, artist, or catergory views for my music.
I'm pulling my hair out here. I've put in almost 12 hours now on this problem, 12 man/working hours, spread across a week, and I cannot get my bloody files to show up on the PS3. Everything worked fine and kosher on XP SP3 with WMP 11. No issues, no problems, none of these headaches or hurdles.
I was hoping, if I got selected for a House Party, to show off how easy it was to stream files using windows 7 to devices in your home and now I'm gnashing my teeth over it. | My System Specs |

Install TVersity. Disable SSDP discovery service and also UPnP Device Host service and you're set.
If you want to stream HD .mkv files, remux them to .m2ts with tsMuxer. Make sure there is no DTS audio or you will have to encode that to AC3 before remuxing to .m2ts. You can keep both audios by muxing DTS and AC3 together with the x264 video. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Had I wanted to install TVersity, PS3 Media Server, or any other program, I would probably be over at that respective programs websites/forums asking for help getting them up and running.
I am trying to get WMP12 to operate correctly. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Motherboard Asus P5N72-T Memory Corsair Dominator 2x1024 Graphics Card EVGA GTS 250 1GB Sound Card Soundmax Monitor(s) Displays Acer 23" 1080p PSU 1000 Watt Thermaltake ToughPower Case ThermalTake Armor Cooling Stock Hard Drives 6 TB logical disk space across 8 drives of varying size. |

Alright, well, cancel the house party until you install TVersity, revert to XP3 SP3 or go bald. lol | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

OP, your post is fairly old, but I was having the same problem and seem to have figured it out.
In WMP12, under Media Streaming Options, when I click Customize on my PS3 (usually shows up as Unknown Device), there was a check-mark beside Use Default Settings.. I removed that, and placed a check mark beside "Make all of the media in my library available to this device". IT FIXED IT!! Everything is working fine now!
NOTE: not sure if this made a difference, but I also made this change by clicking on Customize on my host computer at the same time.
Hopefully this helps some people out, as it has been frustrating me for the last 2 weeks since I installed 7.
To the above poster: PS3 Media Server has its purposes, and works very well, but WMP is a much cleaner interface when using playlists. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom OS Windows 7 CPU AMD AthlonII 2.9 Motherboard ASUS Memory 2GB Kingston 667 Graphics Card NA Sound Card NA Monitor(s) Displays NA Keyboard BenQ USB Mouse Logitech USB PSU 350W generic Case generic Cooling stock |

Hi and welcome.
I don't think you understand the point of my post. It was to solve his issue as immediate as possible so that he could have whatever party he was having.
As for Tversity, of course it's only an opinion and everyone has one, but I find it best of all DLNA servers available. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number self built OS 7600.20510 x86 CPU P4 550 3.4 GHz HT running at 3.5 GHz Motherboard MSI PM8M3-V (MS-7211 v1.x) Micro-ATX mainboard Memory OCZ 2 GB(2x1GB) DDR400mHz running @ 414 mHz Graphics Card HIS Radeon HD 3850 IceQ 3 Turbo HDMI Dual DL-DVI AGP Sound Card MOTU Traveler firewire studio interface 192 kHz 24 bit Monitor(s) Displays 22" widescreen Acer X223W LCD, 17" Compaq P75 CRT Screen Resolution 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 Keyboard Logitch Classical Keyboard 200 Mouse Logitech Mediaplay cordless PSU 350W generic Case Cybertronpc, it glows blue Cooling stock cpu fan, Ice-Q 3 gpu and system, many case fans Hard Drives SATA I x2 WD, 400 GB and 120 GB, SATA 2 WD Caviar Black 1 TB Internet Speed 1792/448 kbits/sec Other Info SATA II PCI fake RAID adapter, 1 GB Readyboost, original ATI Remote Wonder (even works with WMC perfectly), Logitech Rumblepad 2 game controller x2 |

Hi torrent, you're right, I did misread your post, as you made no mention of PS3 Media Server. I've tried both, and find PS3 Media Server was much easier to set up and use. Though I've heard good things of TVersity, I just didn't like it.
Only reason I posted on such an old forum is I've been unable to find any resources for this issue, and I seem to have finally found the fix. Maybe some lucky souls will find this forum before going bald next time. I'm quite sure Benedict is out of luck for his party lol. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number custom OS Windows 7 CPU AMD AthlonII 2.9 Motherboard ASUS Memory 2GB Kingston 667 Graphics Card NA Sound Card NA Monitor(s) Displays NA Keyboard BenQ USB Mouse Logitech USB PSU 350W generic Case generic Cooling stock |

Sorry if I came off kind of angry. I appreciated your post linking to programs for my party. However, my party was specifically a windows 7 launch party, to show off various windows 7 features, hence why i wanted to get wmp12 streaming up and running. Torrent, I made the changes you suggested, dont have the time right now to check on the ps3, but will check on it tomorrow and get back to this thread. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Motherboard Asus P5N72-T Memory Corsair Dominator 2x1024 Graphics Card EVGA GTS 250 1GB Sound Card Soundmax Monitor(s) Displays Acer 23" 1080p PSU 1000 Watt Thermaltake ToughPower Case ThermalTake Armor Cooling Stock Hard Drives 6 TB logical disk space across 8 drives of varying size.
