Alternatives to the default Windows VPN Server?

I am looking for any VPN software for windows which allows me to host a VPN server so normal Windows users can connect to me without 3rd party software.
I do not want to use the built-in windows 7 VPN a.k.a. "incomming connections" because it doesn't give you any panel for controlling many settings. It's just "allow connection, create user, ip range and allow / disallow network". And you don't even know when somebody connects.. I'd have to open the network and sharing center and look at it all the time.

I have tried setting up a Linux Virtual Machine but people who connect do not have access to my router or internet.. I tried it using debian squeeze and poptop.

So... is M$ seriously a "monopoly" in the VPN industry if it gets to windows?

If you dont want to install 3rd party software then yes Mircosoft is the "monoploy" of what you can do with their OS.

Decide what protocol you want to use

Then looking into software that supports it.

Well if you can find a 3rd parryt PPTP VPN Server program I would be very happy because I can't find any for Windows (7).

they're out there I cant suggest one to you since I use a dedicated firewall as a VPN server. Maybe another member has had good experience with one.
