Unable to Browse Network or map drives

Lenovo T410, Windows 7 Pro 64bit, domain member, communicating with multiple Windows Server 2003 - 2008.

A user's Windows XP laptop was corrupted and I rebuilt it with Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The user had an XP loaner while I was rebuilding, and it worked fine.

I built the laptop in our lab area and at my desk, and everything worked fine. When done, I took it back to the user, but started experiencing network problems at his desk. The first clue was that he didn't receive his normal drive mappings. I tried browsing to the shares and couldn't reach them. I tried by server name and by IP address with no luck. I could access the internet and internal websites including servers I couldn't browse to.

I brought the laptop back to my desk, and it worked fine again. My desk is on VLAN1. The user's desk is on VLAN2. I tried the laptop on two other ports on the user's switch, both were VLAN2. It worked fine on 1 and wouldn't work on the other.

I was thinking either a port issue, a switch issue, or a VLAN issue. My network guy checked the ports and they are all setup the same. He doesn't see any problems on the switch. And since it works on a VLAN2 port, it doesn't seem to be a VLAN communication issue.

I've checked all the NIC and firewall settings, and I don't see anything out of place. I swapped cables, tried it with and without his Cisco IP phone, tried it with and without his port replicator, ect.

I plan to try some different NIC drivers if I can ever get Lenovo's website to work. Anyone have any other ideas?

It would help see the ipconfig /all output. Also let us know if your network is setup via DHCP or static addressing.

It could be a cabling issue. I'm not sure what type of switches you're using but it could be a MAC filtering problem. I think you need to be more specific about your network setup since the probably could be anywhere.

On the switch ports that the laptop did not work at does another laptop or PC work?

Have you tried looking for the latest drivers for your network card?

What type of network did you choose when setting up the PC? (Home/Work/Private)

Figured it out... Kinda.

It was a duplicate machine on the domain. The tech that does the MDT imaging for us ran this laptop and another machine at the same time using the same name. Not sure why. The other one finished first and actually owned the domain account. It was sitting idle on the network the whole time I was working on the user's laptop at my desk. My desk and the image station were on the same VLAN. Somehow, it piggybacked on the other machine so everything worked at my desk. Take it to another VLAN, however, and File and Print Sharing basically broke.

Once we turned off the other machine, I was immediately able to browse the network normally. But, I had to remove and re-add it to the domain because the trust relationship was broken.

Weird
