Windows 7: network monitor - fixing problems and recommending a new one

I installed a bandwidth monitor some months ago but never got it to work. Its called Bandwidth Monitor Pro. Have been using it for years and never had any problems, tho on other computers. On this one the traffic is always shown as 0.

So 2 questions:

- One, can we figure out why this might not be working?
- Could some alternative network monitors be suggested? I've tried a couple others, some have been OK some not so much. Here's what I'd like:
to be able to see how much I've downloaded / uploaded this hour/day/week/month EASILY and what speed I'm at right now. I'm sure all monitors can do this but the question is how easily. I dont want to have to go into various settings and navigate thru various menus to do that.
I'd consider it a good bonus if I could figure out which PROGRAMS are generating this traffic ie whether its my browser, backup program, etc. I'm personally quite curious how much data I'm using when I'm streaming or watching a youtube video.

PS - is the proper name a network monitor or a bandwidth monitor?
