    Toshiba Satellite WiFi problem

    Hey Guys,

I just installed windows 7 on a Toshiba Satellite A300 laptop that has Vista on it before. Everything works on it but the wireless won't connect properly, it says the network is public and has no internet connection even tho if i go to the connect to a network it shows me my wireless network. any help would be great.

    thanks

You didn't mention which WLAN driver you needed to install. Once you figure that out by looking in Device Manager you can get the driver from the page below.

Can you post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from this machine? :)

According to the ipconfig you have a valid IP and you should be online.

See if you can set the network type to home, the link below shows you how.
Network Location - Set as Home, Work, or Public Network

You might want to go into your routers wireless setting and make sure you are using WPA2 security with AES encryption.

I'm not sure which antivirus software you are running but pretty much all of them are capable of blocking internet connections, especially wireless.

Does it say Unidentified Network anywhere?

    Do you have iTunes installed?

The driver you are using doesn't appear to be an approved Windows 7 driver because if it was, it would install the Msoft Virtual WiFi miniport. Have you tried looking around for a more recent WHQL Windows 7 driver?

Windows 7 was a clean install on this laptop, so I installed vista back on to it and still nothing.

After looking a bit closer I see some problems with the ipconfig that aren't normal.

First of all it appears as if you turned off DHCP then typed in an IP.

You should have just left DHCP turned on in the IPv4 properties or you should have typed in an IP that is in the same subnet of the router.

The Default gateway at 192.168.2.1 would need an IP like 192.168.2.2 rather than 192.168.0.8

You should reinstall Windows 7 and leave DHCP turned on. :)
