no connections are available

I just freshly upgraded from windows XP 32 bit to windows 7 32 bit. The installation was easy, and here my computer is sitting at the desktop ready to run.

the problem is that i cannot connect to the internet? I was able to connect to the internet using XP just minutes ago, but now that I upgraded to 7, "no connections are available".

what do I do?

troubleshoot said a ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or is broken..that cannot be true as i was just connected to the internet on XP minutes ago

Did you go into your Control Panel under Network and Sharing to make sure a connection is setup?

under Network and Sharing Center it says I am not currently connected to any networks. I click connect to a network, and it says no connections are available. I don't understand, what am I supposed to do?

there is obviously a network setup as I am typing this on my netbook right now while sitting next to my PC which has a wired connection via ethernet cable

I checked the status of my network adapter under device managers and the status said it was working properly. i also clicked update driver and it says the best driver software is already installed. Restarted the computer a few times still does not work

no connections are available

-I just freshly installed Windows 7, 32 bit.
-I cannot connect to the internet (no connections found), I am using a wired connection with an ethernet cable
-My network adapter is found, status is that it's working properly and that the best drivers are installed.
-Tried rebooting several times, no dice.

My internet was working just a second ago on the XP (32 bit OS -- I dual boot)

What the hell is the problem?

Calm down, likely have the wrong driver installed for the network device.

I know nothing about the system so I can't magically point you to the right one.
If it's a prebuilt/store bought machine usually the drivers can be found easy enough on the manufacturer's website.

I am not an expert as you will see from my threads here...however,i would just like to say to you that I have just been through something very similar...I had re-installed Windows 7 and had no internet connection...I needed to install the relevant drivers...seeing as I am an absolute novice at things like this I was utterly lost...but within a short time was directed to a site (Acer driver downloads ) and loaded and installed the drivers...it worked thanks to the guys here.

I just posted this as a bit of support for you as it is very unsettling, thinking your computer is now useless and a large bill is on the horizon !!! Good luck !

Your problem is not the fault of Win 7. It is a great OS. Go into the Control panel again and click on Network and Sharing Center. You will see "Setup a New Connection or Network". Click on that and go through the process of setting up your network. You also need to go to the site of you PC and download drivers after you have setup your connection. You can go to the site with the PC you are on now and download to a CD to install on the PC you are trying to fix.

You really should have looked into this at least for a minute before upgrading your OS by a decade in one go.
Setting up network as he says above may actually prove useful to you.
