How to avoid "invalid IP configuration" connection error?

Hi all,

I have a problem with my internet connection on my PC.

The internet connection works fine, until I let my PC idle for about an hour or so. The connection then dies, but can be repaired by the Windows Troubleshooter which fixes the error message about the invalid IP configuration.

I've reset the modem and the router many times. Did not help.

Any (more) ideas?

There is a setting in the properties of the network card to Power it down when idle. Turn that off and see what happens.

You have to go to Device Manager to get to that setting.

I have a menu entry in Device Manager: "Network Adapters"
submenus:
802.11n Wireless LAN card
Inter(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection
Microsoft Virtual WiFI Miniport Adapter

I suspect I'd have to apply your tip to the second one ..?

It has a setting "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" which is checked.
That's the one, right?

There seem to be a couple of ways to fix this issue if I understand it correctly.
(1). Yes turn that off and your card will not turn off.
(2). This is somewhat common that when a computer goes idle it confuses the DHCP meaning that the IP address is conflicted because the isp's DNS has issued your DHCP A new temporary IP. You should be able to get around it by setting a manual IPv4 to your computer. Ex:192 .168.1.xxx. If you want to go that route it is probably better IMO. It will save the despicably minute cost of running your wireless card (although if there is a short it could be a higher cost) and personally I like to feel that everything has its place which is why I personally configured my Primary and secondary DNS for both retention and speed. If this is the route you wish to go a simple Internet search can show you how to configure a static address. Or you can just reply in here for more help because IDK how much tech savvy you have. It would be a waste to write it out and find out you know much more about wireless than me right.
