I have a desktop computer connected to a wireless modem through an ethernet cable. My laptop is connected to the modem using wifi. Is there any way to connect the two computers?

If you wish to have the 2 computers communicate and do files/printer sharing and both computers have Windows 7 (I'm assuming), you may setup a Homegroup. HomeGroup - Microsoft Windows
Please let us know if this is what you wish to accomplish or not.
The problem is that I can't able to see the other computer in the network. But i can see it in the network map...
I want to know that the connection between the computers is possible or not.

Is the "Modem" you are connecting to actually a "Router"? It would need to be a router and the two PCs need to have IP addresses in the same Subnet, for example addresses of 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.3 (the router would probably have the first address in the Subnet of 192.168.1.1).
