I just performed a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit on my Dell Optiplex 780. It had Vista Business on it. The installation went fine, I've installed XP several times before, so it's not something new to me. Windows 7 runs fine, but the internet is giving me real trouble. I've done countless searches on this topic for the last 3 days and just can't come to a solution, I've done so much stuff to my computer now that I don't even remember it all(nothing detrimental).
Windows 7 is running fine still, but the internet is just slow. When this computer was on Vista up until the moment I installed Windows 7, I was getting 20-30 mbps, and now I don't get over 3.5 mbps. Upload speeds have remained solid. I've updated firmware in my router, downloaded every driver
imaginable, even contacted my ISP to see if it was anything on their end and its not. My other desktop on Vista home premium just showed put out 24 mbps and 26 mbps, and my phone over wifi gets high marks too. So I don't think it's the connection or router.
The only drivers
that I can't find are for the PCI Serial Port and the PCI Simple Communications Controller. I've checked the DELL website and installed the Chipset drivers and that didn't include the drivers for these and I've checked the Intel site with them saying everything was up to date. I can't find these drivers anywhere. Would missing these drivers have anything to do with my problem. I've tried everything that I know of, and the connection's not dropping out any, just a lot slower than what it should be. I'm up for any advice that might help me solve this problem and enjoy Windows 7 to it full potential.
