Cannot connect to internet after windows 7 computer being in storage

    Hey all,

I have a desktop computer, HP P6000 series Windows 7 SP1, that is acting a little strange after being stored for a few months. We moved out in April and I just reconnected it last week. Now, the only icons I have running in my system tray are the volume and the HP digital imaging icons. I should have more, like SkyDrive, Dropbox, and most annoyingly WiFi.

I cannot connect to the internet at all on the computer anymore. I tried system restore to an earlier time when I know it was working, but it did not change anything. Ask any questions you may have, I know I haven't described this well, but it is unusual. I haven't seen anything like this before. thanks for your help.

    Andrew

who/what is your internet service provider, are you connected to a modem or router? What shows in the network and sharing under adapters?

Thanks for the reply. I have ATT U-verse. All other devices, including my laptop, ipad, phone, and tv can connect to the network, I just have no network options for my desktop. It's a wireless network for the whole home. Under network and sharing center, it simply says that no networks are available.

In device manager, I have listed a "802.11n wireless LAN card" and the Realtek PCIeGBE Family Controller. With U-verse, there is nothing to connect an ethernet cable to. Thanks guys.

Both of those devices state that they are enabled. When I click "See full map" from my network and sharing center, it says the adapter is not connected. There are no available connections from here and there is a red X between my computer and the internet. Windows keeps wanting me to check the router, but I know that is not the problem.

So....when you click connect or disconnect in network and sharing center, no networks at all show up ?

Maybe reboot the wireless modem/router. Have you tried that ?

Is this dial-up , tv cable or what ?

No networks show up at all. Like I said, the network is fine. I have no problem with it, since I am on about four other devices on it right now. It's a fiber optics to curb type of connection. It provides cable tv and wireless internet from a box at the end of my street block. No networks show up and it says the adapter is not connected. As I said initially, too, my whole tray seems messed up, but the internet is the most worrisome.
